Living Simply in the kid's rooms

Today I had a win! This room was a total disaster this morning....paw patrol EVERYWHERE! My son Knox just turned 3 and quite honestly the toys after the birthday party were out of control. I thought I did a good job of going through my boy's toys before his birthday, but when I walked in this morning that was clearly not the case!Basically friends, to live simply in your kiddos room you have to get rid of the toys. Not all the toys, but you have to get rid of most of them. Let's face it, they don't play with the majority of them, and they have so many they can't find their favorite in all the mess.So after lunch today I decided enough was enough and out came my good old black trash bags! Now my boys are 3 and 4, so involving them in the purging process in tough. My 4 year old is a total hoarder! On a good day I will get him to pick out his favorites and I sneak the rest in my black bag, but today I let them watch a show and to work I went. You might be wondering if I gave all the toys away after seeing these pictures. I did! No just kidding. They are in the closet. We use this dresser for all their clothes, and the toys are in the closet. I built shelves to store them since I didn't need to hang up shirts. I also used the space under the bottom bunk to store a few things for easy access.I decided I would go ahead and share this room with you even though there are 1000 projects left for me to finish (like adding the last hardware to the top drawer on the bunk bed). But this is real life, and I can only hope you get a little inspiration from it.Mariannep.s. This room is actually the "office" in our home, but with 5 kids and only 3 bedrooms you have to get creative!p.p.s. The bunk beds were given to us from our sweet neighbor, and I threw a coat of paint on them. The bedding is a mix of Ikea, Target, and Pottery Barn Kids. It was all gifted or on sale. The dresser is our old dresser I gave to the boys since we didn't need it anymore, because I gave so many of my clothes away they all now fit in my closet. The dresser was also once a cherry color. It was cheap and we bought it when we first got married. I threw paint on it too. :) Moral of the story.....use what you already have to build your room. Paint can transform, and purging makes it all come together!
