The Marble Jar
Chore chart, allowance, marble jars....we use all these systems in an effort to begin to teach Mia and Sadie responsibility. A difficult task when you are working with a 4 and 6 year old, but these girls are bright and super motivated to fill their lives with as many stuffed animals as possible, and I'M NOT BUYING THEM ANYMORE STUFFED ANIMALS...so they can earn them!I decided to mixed it up a bit and use the marble jar system for the 1st time this summer. Mia used the system in Kindergarten this year, and she loved it. So back to the dollar star we went for marbles and jars. The concept is simple, when they fill their jar with marbles they earn something. Drew and I decided on a certain dollar amount. They can take the money or bank it and keep saving. They get marbles for basic chores, but it has expanded to all kinds of things like, "I need to go to the bathroom, please sit with your brother for a minute and make him laugh." Or "take a good nap and you will earn a marble!"I LOVE THE SYSTEM! I make sure they get their marble right away for quick motivation, and I take a marble away for bad behavior.I posted these in their bathroom to remind them of basic chores they can earn marbles for.
