Living with less
I read an amazing article in OPRAH MAGAZINE this month about a woman who decided after dealing with personal loss of loved ones that she only wanted to surround herself with what truly mattered. So she started with her closet and cut it down to 33 items per season. WOW! She talks about how non of her treasured memories are tied to "things."I found this super powerful and conflicting for me in my own life.Don't get me wrong I LOVE to purge! But, I seem to always only hit the surface of living with less. I purge just enough so I'm not considered a hoarder, so my house isn't cluttered, yet not to the point where everything in my home is actually used on a regular basis.Let's face it, don't we wear the same old thing all the time? A couple of great outfits we mix and match. What is everything else in there? Why do I hang on to certain things I haven't worn in YEARS?!?!? In my defence I have been pregnant on and off for the past 7 years, so I have clothing ranging from a 2-10, but there is still everything else.Wouldn't it feel amazing to FIT in your house? We are always talking about how we need more space, more storage, bigger closets.....what in the world is actually in all those "small" closets?Well I am inspired and motivated to make a change and live with less starting with my closet! Here is my before picture....actually after I got rid of probably 1/2 of my clothes when we moved........ I am working working working away this weekend to show ya'll the after picture next week!I am not including my prego clothes in the 33 items per season or the transition clothes I wear the 1st 6 months after having the baby while I am losing weight. For shoes I am choosing 33 total! AHHH! That's such a hard one, but I am motivated to achieve a minimalist closet! So hear we go.....wish me luck :)
